Professional Writing for the Visual Arts

Artist Statement Writing

This workshop is ideal for visual artists looking to refine their voice, strengthen applications, and confidently communicate with a variety of audiences about their practice.

The Professional Writing for the Visual Arts workshop teaches artists foundational skills and writing techniques to develop compelling artists statements, exhibition proposals, and write in other professional contexts. This half-day professional development workshop with Olivia Everitt is now available for artists across Queensland.

Specially designed for visual artists, this 3-hour workshop assists artists to develop compelling artist statements and exhibition proposals to support and grow their practice. Workshop topics covered during this session include:

  • Writing artist biographies and statements

  • Tailoring your writing for galleries, funders and audiences

  • Preparing EOIs for solo or group exhibition opportunities

  • Writing for public art commissions, art prizes and other types of submissions

  • Templates, case studies and practical writing strategies, including the role of generative text AI tools

Participants will leave this workshop with a draft Artist Statement for further development.

Upcoming workshops available for public registrations are listed below, or please contact Olivia to arrange a workshop in your region.
